The Monroe Township Public Works Department isn’t the same “old road department”. Aside from taking care of its town’s roadways via sweeping, snow removal, re-surfacing of roads and road repairs, the Public Works Department manages a variety of responsibiliities and the Department is staffed with highly skilled and certified professionals.
Stormwater Management- Consists of maintaining and repairing stormwater catch basins and retention/detention ponds. This includes actual infrastructure, fountain maintenance and fence repairs.
Roadside/township property mowing.
The Municipal garage has 3 full time mechanics who maintain DPW’s fleet along with Police, First Aid, Transportation, M.T.U.D., and Construction vehicles.
Our 10 buildings/grounds employees are responsible for maintaining The Senior Center, The Library, The Community Center, The Municipal Complex, and The Police Department
Parks Division is responsible for the maintenance of numerous parks and athletic fields including Tom Allen Softball Complex, Danny Ryan Pop Warner Football Complex, James Monroe Baseball Complex, Avenue K Veterans Park /Spray Park, and the Soccer Fields on Prospect Plains Rd. They are also always around for any special township event or recreation events.
Our Sign Division has a state of the art sign machine that help keep us in compliance with state safety/ traffic regulations. They also letter our municipal fleet vehicles.
We operate the Monroe Township Recycling Drop-off center and coordinate other recycling with the MCIA. We work with NJ Clean Communities Council to educate and implement their programs. Nearly all year round, we have crews going through the whole town picking up grass bags, leaf bags, yard debris and roadside clean-up.
Bulk waste pickup is held from Spring to Fall, which offers residents a once a year bulky waste pickup free of charge.
Our department is always there to respond to township emergencies and disasters. Many of our crew are CPR/AED certified.

Curbside Recycling Collection, Service Matters & Information
Changes in collection schedules due to weather emergencies or other emergency situations will be announced on the following radio stations: WCTC (1450 AM) and WMGQ (98.3 FM). You may also check for changes on the web site at www.mciauth.com or by calling (800) 488-MCIA (6242) for specific information.
Curbside Recycling Containers
New residents can come to the Recycling Drop-Off Center @ 76 GravelHill-Spotswood Rd. and receive a free set. Replacement bins may be purchased for $8.90 for a round one and $12.25 for a rectangular one or $21.15 for the set. Residents must pay with a check to Monroe Twp. No cash will be accepted.
