COUNCIL OF THE TOWNSHIP OF MONROE MINUTES  

RE-ORGANIZATION MEETING – JANUARY 1, 2016

 

The Council of the Township of Monroe met in the Senior Center12 Halsey Reed Road for the Re-Organization Meeting. 

The Re-Organization Meeting was Called to Order at 12:00 noon by Township Clerk, Sharon Doerfler, with a Salute to the Flag. 

The Township Clerk introduced singers Matthew Maiola and Mia Ingui who sang the Star Spangled Banner.  

The Invocation was given by Rabbi Benjamin Levi from the Monroe Township Jewish Center 

 

The Township Clerk certified the November 3, 2015 election results and administered the Oaths of Office to Mayor Gerald W. Tamburro, with his wife Carole holding the Bible, Councilman-at-Large Stephen Dalina with his wife Susan and children Stephen and Jacob holding the Bible, and Councilwoman-at-large Leslie Koppel, with son Jacob holding the Bible. 

  

UPON ROLL CALL by Deputy Clerk, Patricia Reid, the following members of Council were present: Stephen Dalina (Councilman-at-Large), Michael Leibowitz, Leslie Koppel (Councilwoman-at-Large) and Elizabeth Schneider. 

ALSO PRESENT were: Business Administrator Wayne R. Hamilton and Township Attorney Joel L. Shain.  

There were approximately three hundred (300) members of the public present in the audience. 

 

Deputy Clerk, Patricia Reid, read the following SUNSHINE LAW into the record:   

 

In accordance with the Open Public Meetings Act, it is hereby announced and shall be entered into the Minutes of this meeting that adequate notice of this meeting has been provided by the following: 

 

1.Posted on December 16, 2015 in the Office of the Township Clerk, in the Municipal Building, 1 Municipal Plaza and remains posted at that location for public inspection; 

2.Printed in the HOME NEWS on December 21, 2015 and in the CRANBURY PRESS on December 25, 2015; 

3.Posted on December 16, 2015 on the Bulletin Boards within the Municipal Complex;  

4.Posted on the Monroe Township website; and 

4.Sent to those individuals who have requested personal notice. 

 

The Township Clerk announced Nominations were in order for the position of COUNCIL PRESIDENT to serve for a term of two (2) years.  Councilman Stephen Dalina nominated Councilwoman Leslie Koppel to serve as Council President for a two (2) year term, Seconded by Councilwoman Elizabeth Schneider. 

The Township Clerk asked if there were any further Nominations, and there being none, she requested a Motion to close the Nominations. 

  

UPON MOTION made by Councilman Michael Leibowitz and seconded by Councilwoman Elizabeth Schneider, the NOMINATIONS for the position of COUNCIL PRESIDENT were closed and a Roll Call Vote was taken on the Nomination of Leslie Koppel to serve as Council President.

The Township Clerk announced Nominations were in order for the position of COUNCIL VICE-PRESIDENT to serve for a term of two (2) years. 

Councilman Michael Leibowitz Nominated Councilman Stephen Dalina to serve as Council Vice-President for a two (2) year term, Seconded by Councilwoman Leslie Koppel. 

 The Township Clerk asked if there were any further Nominations, there being none, she requested a Motion to Close the Nominations. 

 

UPON MOTION made by Councilwoman Elizabeth Schneider and seconded by Councilman Michael Leibowitz, the NOMINATION for the position of COUNCIL VICE-PRESIDENT was closed and a Roll Call Vote was taken on the Nomination of Leslie Koppel to serve as Council Vice-President.

UPON MOTION made by Councilwoman Elizabeth Schneider and seconded by Councilman Michael Leibowitz, the following entitled RESOLUTIONS of APPOINTMENT were adopted as herein below set forth: 

 

RESOLUTIONS as follows: 

 

R-1-2016-001RESOLUTION ELECTING LESLIE KOPPEL PRESIDENT OF THE COUNCIL OF THE TOWNSHIP OF MONROE, NEW JERSEY 

 

R-1-2016-002RESOLUTION ELECTING A VICE-PRESIDENT TO THE COUNCIL  

OF THE TOWNSHIP OF MONROE, NEW JERSEY 

 

 

Copy of Resolutions Duly Filed. 

 

 

The Township Clerk administered OATHS OF OFFICE to Council Vice-President Leslie Koppel to serve as Council President for a term of two (2) years and to Councilman Stephen Dalina to serve as Council Vice-President for a term of two (2) years. 

 

The Township Clerk officially turned the meeting over to Council President Leslie Koppel.  

  

Remarks were made by Council Vice-President Stephen Dalina, Council President Leslie Koppel and Mayor Gerald W. Tamburro. 

 

Benediction was given by June Lee Tamburro of the Bridgewater United Methodist Church. 

 

Singers Matthew Maiola and Mia Ingui sang God Bless America.  

 

Everyone was invited by Council President Leslie Koppel to partake in light refreshments.  

 

UPON MOTION made by Councilman Stephen Dalina and seconded by Councilwoman Elizabeth Schneider, the January 1, 2016 Re-Organization Meeting was Adjourned at 12:53 PM.
