MESSAGE FROM MAYOR TAMBURRO:  “It is truly remarkable to see our doctors, nurses, medical workers, and all the essential employees fighting to keep people alive and protect each of us.  We owe them a great deal and we need to help take the pressure off them by staying home.

I know 7 new Covid-19 cases is lower than the 28 total cases this weekend, but make no mistake, we are in the fight of our lives.

Many of us have seen tough times in our life.  Many of us have overcome odds.  I know staying at home and away from our friends and family is hard – its counter-intuitive to who we are as humans.  I know firsthand how hard it is to be home alone.  I implore you to pick up the phone and call someone---talk.  They want to hear from you, and it will help you a lot.

But we must stay home. We can do this no matter how it longs lasts.”

MESSAGE FROM GOVERNOR MURPHY:  “Ventilators are our number one need right now. We just received word that 300 ventilators are on their way to New Jersey from the national stockpile.  I won’t stop fighting for the equipment we need to save every life we can.”

MESSAGE FROM THE STATE HEALTH COMMISSIONER:  “New Jersey’s state laboratory has run 40,806 coronavirus tests since the outbreak started, with 15,582 positive tests — a positive rate of 38.19%,” said state Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli earlier today. She said she wants to get the number of critical care beds from 2,000 to 4,000. She has asked every hospital to double their critical care capacity and commented that a medical team from FEMA will be visiting NJ this week to do training sessions so hospitals are prepared to do co-venting (two people on the same ventilator.)

“I’m optimistic that social distancing plus increasing hospital capacity will get us where we need to be to handle the surge that is predicted for the coming weeks.”  If you have average social distancing compliance based on past epidemics, you could decrease the curve by 58% relative to history.  Please refer to the following link which illustrates the impact of social distancing: https://monroetwp.com/index.php/news/652-nj-social-distancing.

“Look at these charts.  We can crush the top of this curve if we ALL do our part. Stay home,” said Governor Murphy.  “We can do this. We must do this.”
