COUNCIL OF THE TOWNSHIP OF MONROE MINUTES 

RE-ORGANIZATION MEETING – JANUARY 1, 2014 

 The Council of the Township of Monroe met in the Municipal Building, 1 Municipal Plaza for a Re-Organization Meeting. 

The Re-Organization Meeting was Called to Order at 12:00 noon by Township Clerk, Sharon Doerfler, with a Salute to the Flag. 

The Invocation was given by Monsignor Joseph M. Curry of Immaculate Conception Church.  

 The Township Clerk certified the November 5, 2013 election results and administered the Oaths of Office to Councilwoman Elizabeth “Betty” Schneider (Ward 1), with her grandson Matthew holding the Bible; Councilman Gerald W. Tamburro (Ward 2), with his wife Carole, Grand-daughter Olivia Lombardi, Grand-daughter Marissa Manza and Grandson Joseph Manza holding the Bibleand Councilman Michael Leibowitz (Ward 3), with wife Judy and Grand-daughter Lauren holding the Bible. 

After being sworn-in to office, remarks were made by Ward 1 Councilwoman Schneider, Ward 2 Councilman Tamburro and Ward 3 Councilman Leibowitz.  

 

UPON ROLL CALL by Deputy Clerk, Patricia Reid, the following members of Council were present:  Elizabeth Schneider (Ward 1), Gerald W. Tamburro (Ward 2), Michael Leibowitz (Ward 3), Leslie Koppel (Councilwoman–at-Large) and Stephen Dalina (Councilman-at-Large). 

ALSO PRESENT  were:  Mayor Richard Pucci, Business Administrator Wayne R. Hamilton, and Township Attorney Joel L. Shain.   

There were approximately one hundred (100) members of the public present in the audience. 

 

Deputy Clerk, Patricia Reid, read the following SUNSHINE LAW into the record:   

In accordance with the Open Public Meetings Act, it is hereby announced and shall be entered into the Minutes of this meeting that adequate notice of this meeting has been provided by the following: 

1.Posted on December 20, 2013 in the Office of the Township Clerk, in the Municipal Building, 1 Municipal Plaza and remains posted at that location for public inspection; 

2.Printed in the HOME NEWS and CRANBURY PRESS on December 27, 2013; 

3.Posted on December 20, 2013 on the Bulletin Boards within the Municipal Complex;  

4.Posted on the Monroe Township website; and 

4.Sent to those individuals who have requested personal notice. 

 

The Township Clerk announced Nominations were in order for the position of COUNCIL PRESIDENT to serve for a term of two (2) years. 

Councilwoman Leslie Koppel Nominated Councilman Gerald W. Tamburro to serve as Council President for a two (2) year term, Seconded by Councilman Stephen Dalina. 

The Township Clerk asked if there were any further Nominations, and there being none, she requested a Motion to close the Nominations.

UPON MOTION made by Councilwoman Leslie Koppel and seconded by Councilman Stephen Dalina, the NOMINATIONS for the position of COUNCIL PRESIDENT were closed and a Roll Call Vote was taken on the Nomination of Gerald W. Tamburro to serve as Council President.

The Township Clerk announced Nominations were in order for the position of COUNCIL VICE-PRESIDENT to serve for a term of two (2) years. 

 

Councilman Stephen Dalina Nominated Councilwoman Leslie Koppel to serve as Council Vice-President for a two (2) year term, Seconded by Councilman Gerald W. Tamburro. 

 

The Township Clerk asked if there were any further Nominations, there being none, she requested a Motion to Close the Nominations. 

 

UPON MOTION made by Councilman Dalina and seconded by Councilman Tamburro, the NOMINATION for the position of COUNCIL VICE-PRESIDENT was closed and a Roll Call Vote was taken on the Nomination of Leslie Koppel to serve as Council Vice-President.

UPON MOTION made by Councilman Leibowitz and seconded by Councilman Dalina, the following entitled RESOLUTIONS of APPOINTMENT were adopted as herein below set forth:

R-1-2014-001ARESOLUTION ELECTING GERALD W. TAMBURRO PRESIDENT OF THE COUNCIL OF THE TOWNSHIP OF MONROE, NEW JERSEY 

 

R-1-2010-001BRESOLUTION ELECTING LESLIE KOPPEL AS VICE-PRESIDENT OF THE COUNCIL OF THE TOWNSHIP OF MONROE, NEW JERSEY 

 

Copy of ResolutionDuly Filed. 

 

The Township Clerk administered OATHS OF OFFICE to Councilman Gerald W. Tamburro to serve as Council President for a term of two (2) years and to Councilwoman Leslie Koppel to serve as Council Vice-President for a term of two (2) years. 

 

The Township Clerk officially turned the meeting over to Council President Gerald W. Tamburro.   

Remarks were made by Council President Tamburro and Mayor Richard Pucci. 

Benediction was given by Rabbi Ben Levy of the Monroe Township Jewish Center.

 UPON MOTION made by Councilman Dalina and seconded by Councilman Leibowitz, the January 1, 2014 Re-Organization Meeting was Adjourned at 1:45 PM.
