Monroe Township Police Department Promotes Four Officers 

MONROE TOWNSHIP, N.J.  – August 1, 2019 –Mayor Gerald W. Tamburro and Chief Michael J. Biennas today announced four promotions within the Monroe Township Police Department.

Effective August 1, Lieutenant Lisa Robinson is promoted to the position of Captain, replacing Biennas who assumed the role of Chief on July 1.   Sergeant John Strych is promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and Officer Brian Burns to Sergeant.  Officer Brian Dziomba also was promoted to Sergeant following the retirement of Sergeant Robert Bell in July.  

“The Monroe Township Police Department is one of the most professional police departments in the state.  Our Police Department has made us the safest city in Middlesex County and fourth safest in the state,” said Mayor Gerald W. Tamburro. “I wish all of them much success in their new positions.”

Lisa Robinson, a Monroe resident and Monroe High School graduate, was sworn in as a Police Officer in the patrol division on January 1, 1997.  She graduated from the 196thmunicipal class of the Sea Girt State Police Training Academy.  She was assigned to the detective bureau as a juvenile/D.A.R.E. officer in 1999.  In May 2005, she was promoted to Sergeant and reassigned as patrol division shift supervisor. In January 2009, Robinson was reassigned back to the detective bureau as a juvenile/D.A.R.E. Sergeant.  She was promoted to Lieutenant in 2014 where she also acted as the Department’s Public Information Officer.  In July 2017, she was reassigned as patrol division commander and currently serves in that capacity.  Robinson served in the United States Army and the New Jersey National Guard. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Rutgers University and a Masters of Administrative Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

John Strych, a Monroe resident and Monroe High School graduate, was hired as a dispatcher for the Monroe Police Department in August 1993 where he served until joining the Mantoloking Police Department in January 1997.  He was rehired as a Monroe Township Police Officer assigned to the patrol division in September 1997.  Promoted to Sergeant in 2014, he has since been assigned as shift supervisor in the patrol division.  Strych earned an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Brookdale Community College.

Brian Burns was sworn in as a Monroe Township Police Officer in August 2002.  He is a senior officer in the patrol division, having served on multiple squads and under various supervisors, and has assumed the role of shift commander on many occasions during his 17-year tenure.  Burns is a Kean University graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice.

Brian Dziomba was sworn in as a Police Officer assigned to the patrol division in August 2005.  He was reassigned to the detective bureau in 2010.  He specializes in fraud investigation and prevention in Monroe Township. Detective Dziomba also is assigned to the Middlesex County Task Force responsible for conducting investigations of individuals and organizations who traffic drugs, guns and/or participate in illegal gang activity.    Dziomba holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Seton Hall University.  

The Monroe Township Police Department comprises 62 sworn officers.  The Department consists of a detective bureau, a juvenile/youth services bureau, a domestic unit, a traffic safety bureau and has an officer assigned to senior citizen crime prevention.
