OPERATIONS CONTINUE AS MUNICIPAL BUILDINGS CLOSE TO THE PUBLIC

The latest statistics related to the COVID-19 Coronavirus from Governor Murphy’s office include 31 new positive test results in New Jersey bringing the statewide total to 98.  Middlesex County now has 13 positive cases and the County has declared a State of Emergency.  

Monroe Township currently has one positive case as announced yesterday.  The resident is a family member of a student at the Middle School and the High School.  The patient is home under self-quarantine.  The Middlesex County Health Department is actively leading the investigation and making notifications.  

“Residents should understand that this is a very serious public health emergency.  We must all be disciplined to protect ourselves and others during this evolving community health crisis,” said Mayor Gerald W. Tamburro.  “Please remember that you do not have to be symptomatic to be contagious.  I implore everyone to self-isolate and practice strict social distancing.”  

PUBLIC SAFETY TIPS

Following are recommended measures for limiting your exposure and helping to keep the Monroe Township community safe:  

  • Social Distancing:Maintain six feet of distance between you and any other person.
  • Avoid congregating in groups at restaurants, bars, playgrounds or in people’s homes. 
  • Call 911 with emergencies.
  • Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly for at least 20 seconds with soap and water.Use hand sanitizer in the absence of soap and water.
  • Cough into your elbow.
  • Stay home if you are sick and contact your physician if you suspect you may be infected.Symptoms of the Coronavirus may include:high fever, dry cough and shortness of breath.  
  • Avoid visiting long-term care facilities, nursing homes and hospitals.
  • Be patient and kind to one another.Call to check in on your neighbors, particularly the elderly and those who may have unique needs.

MUNICIPAL BUILDINGS CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC

All Municipal buildings will be closed to the public effective Monday, March 16.  While buildings are closed to the public, the Township will be open and operating with limited staff to assist residents by phone and email only.  

Members of the public may call 732-521-4400 with questions regarding any Township business.  Questions regarding the Coronavirus should be directed to the New Jersey Department of Health Hotline at 800-222-1222.  

All Police and Emergency Services are fully staffed and operational. 

All AARP Tax Aide appointments have been cancelled.

All Construction and MTUD inspections have been suspended until further notice.

The Department of Public Works yard is closed.

Library fees have been waived during closure.

MONROE TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT: Monroe Township Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Dori Alvich, notified parents, guardians and staff earlier today that the district will be utilizing two emergency snow days to provide time for enhanced cleaning of all of Township schools.  

On Monday, March 16 and Tuesday, March 17, all schools and district offices will be closed. This includes all essential staff.  Remote learning will begin on Wednesday, March 18.

LOCAL STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARED FOR RESOURCES: A local State of Emergency was declared yesterday in Monroe Township (Middlesex County) in an effort to effectively marshal local and other resources in the best interests of all Monroe Township residents.  This allows the Township and OEM to procure the supplies and resources necessary to address this local health emergency.  Please note that there are no travel restrictions in place at this time.
