MIDDLESEX COUNTY REPORTS SECOND-MOST CORONAVIRUS CASES IN STATE

MONROE TOWNSHIP REMAINS AT THREE POSITIVE CASES

The latest statistics related to the COVID-19 Coronavirus from Governor Murphy’s office this afternoon includes 319 new positive test results in New Jersey for a statewide total of 742.  Middlesex County reports 20 new cases for a total of 64 positive cases.  Middlesex County now has the second highest number of Coronavirus cases of any county in the state.

“This is a serious threat to our community and we know the virus can spread rapidly.  We need to heed the warnings that this virus is very contagious and people need to stay home,” said Mayor Gerald Tamburro.”

Governor Murphy has ordered the closure of all personal care businesses, including barbershops, hair salons, nail salons, day spas and massage centers this afternoon.  Monroe Township previously announced the closure of these establishments on Tuesday, March 17.

DONATE TO THE FOOD PANTRY:  Recognizing the potential for a shortage of supplies in local food pantries during a time of increased need, residents are invited to donate non-perishable and non-expired food beginning Friday, March 20.

Donations may be deposited in specially marked blue bins at the front door of the Monroe Township Senior Center located at 12 Halsey-Reed Road and the Monroe Township Community Center located at 120 Monmouth Road from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  Please contact Pam Broskie at 732-521-4400 with any questions.

STATE HOTLINE AND WEBSITE ESTABLISHED TO ADDRESS BUSINESS CONCERNS:  The State of New Jersey has established a special website devoted to business concerns during the coronavirus emergency. The site, cv.business.nj.gov,will be updated as new information becomes available. We encourage you to communicate this with the appropriate individuals within your organization.In addition, the New Jersey Business Action Center’s Helpline is now available from 8:00 am – 9:00 pm, seven days a week. Call 1-800-JERSEY-7 to address any concerns you or your employees have.

PENALTY FOR STATE OF EMERGENCY VIOLATIONS:  The directives issued by the State of Emergency declared by the State of New Jersey and Monroe Township Mayor and Office of Emergency Management must be taken and will be enforced, along with any other laws or orders imposed by the Governor. Violation of a State of Emergency is considered a disorderly conduct penalty and is punishable by a fine of up to $1,000, up to six months in jail or both.
