2 NEW COVID-19 CASES IN MONROE TOWNSHIP 736 NEW COVID-19 CASES IN NEW JERSEY - 4,402 TOTAL

LATEST STATE/COUNTY UPDATES:  The latest statistics related to the COVID-19 Coronavirus from Governor Murphy’s office this afternoon includes 736 new positive test results in New Jersey for a statewide total of 4,402.  Middlesex County reports 38 new cases for a total of 315 positive cases.  Monroe has just been notified of two new cases:  63-year-old male and 72-year-old female.  Monroe now has a total of eighteen positive cases. (A previously reported case was determined to live outside of Monroe).

“From what we see happening in New York, we must recognize how important it is for us to self-isolate and social distance --- to avoid the same devastating outcomes,” said Mayor Gerald Tamburro.  “I am asking you to stay home and do your part to help ‘flatten the curve’ of this life-threatening virus.”

UPDATES FROM THE STATE HEALTH DEPARTMENT:  Health commissioner Persichilli says she expects New Jersey’s coronavirus peak to follow New York.  Of the 62 deaths related to COVID-19 cases in New Jersey:  

  • 65% male, 35% female
  • Age range: 30-78. Mean 74, Median 79
  • 15 people, or 24%, were between 30-60 y/o
  • 76% were over 60 y/o
  • 48% document underlying health conditions
  • 26% or 16 cases associated w/long-term care facilities

“My executive order is not a polite suggestion. It is an order. No one, and I mean no one who can do their job from home should be going to work in an office. We must have 100% compliance,”said Governor Murphy. “This is about public health and it’s about people’s lives, your employees’ lives, their families’ lives, and your life.”  

REPORTING BUSINESS OPERATION VIOLATIONS:  Governor Murphy asks that if you see a business operation in violation of his executive order, or are working at one, please report them at covid19.nj.gov/violation or dial 2-1-1.

NEW HOURS:  COVID-19 DRIVE-THRU TESTING SITE IN MONROE TWP at MyInstaDoc, 298 Applegarth Road:  NEW TESTING HOURS AVAILABLE BEGINNING THURSDAY, MARCH 26.  The facility will serve pre-registered patients only from 9am – 1pm and drive-up patients from 1 – 3:30pm. Testing will continue on Saturday, March 28 and Tuesday, March 31.  Pre-register at www.myinstadocmonroe.comor call 609-207-3220 to speak with a medical professional.

SOCIAL SECURITY CHECKS CONTINUE:  Social Security will continue to pay benefits.  Please be aware that scammers may try to trick you into thinking the pandemic is stopping your Social Security payments but that is not true. Social Security cannot accept in-office appointments at this time.  If you have a critical need that you cannot address online, you may receive help via phone at 800-772-1213.  Information can be found online at www.socialsecurity.gov

REMINDER FROM MTUD:  DO NOT FLUSH WIPES:  With the increased use of disinfecting wipes, the Monroe Township Utility Department reminds residents not to flush these wipes in the toilet.  Materials like these, baby wipes, facial cleansing and even “flushable” wipes should be discarded in household trash because they do not breakdown and ultimately cause backups in the sanitary sewer system.  

NEW JERSEY LAUNCHES JOB PORTAL TO CONNECT OUT-OF-WORK RESIDENTS TO OPPORTUNITIES IN CRITICAL INDUSTRIES:  Governor Murphy today announced the launch of a new online portal to connect New Jersey residents with jobs in critical industries responding to COVID-19.
