MESSAGE FROM GOVERNOR MURPHY:  As we cross 100,000, we must keep in mind that there are tens of thousands of New Jerseyans who had tested positive over the past seven weeks and who have beaten COVID-19.  We cannot ease up one bit on our social distancing. I am not in a position yet to begin reopening our state and jumpstarting our economy. We need to see more progress, and more slowing, before we can begin those considerations.  It’s a very simple equation – public health creates economic health.

The sooner we have the testing that we need in place, the sooner we can give our residents the confidence they will need to know that they will be safe once we begin down the road to the “new normal.” We continue to press our federal partners for the necessary waivers to open up testing for more individuals. We’re working with great partners – Rutgers University and our private labs – to bring new testing systems and fast-tracked test-processing into broad use.

STATE AND NJDOH STATISTICS:

  • There are 6,847 hospitalizations, a 17% decrease in hospitalizations from the high of 8,293 hospitalized on April 14th. There are 1,933 patients in ICU, down 6.6% from a high of 2,069 on April 13.
  • 77% of ICU patients are on ventilators. On April 10th, 99% of patients were on ventilators.
  • As of last night, 788 patients were discharged from the hospital.
  • Between 10 p.m. Wednesday and 10 p.m. Thursday, there were 385 new coronavirus patients admitted and 778 patients discharged. Murphy said the three-day average trend line in hospitalization numbers is “generally moving in right direction — down.”Read the full NJ.com article here.
