6 NEW COVID-19 POSITIVE CASE REPORTED ON WEDNESDAY

5214CELEBRATING “ROSIE” BROMBERG:  BEATING COVID-19 at 106 YEARS YOUNG!

Imagine the momentous events of the past century, from the women’s rights movement, to Prohibition, the Great Depression and Pearl Harbor, to the first man in space. Now imagine living through it all – INCLUDING COVID-19.  

Rose “Rosie” Bromberg, age 106 and a resident at The Gardens at Monroe, was born on Aug. 24, 1913.  She grew up in Paterson where she worked in a candy store with her parents making ice cream sodas. Her favorite childhood activity was dancing.  Bromberg lived in Florida for some time before moving back to New Jersey.  View the video celebration here.

COVID-19 Cases received Wednesday, May 20:  6 New Positive Cases

5213MESSAGE FROM GOVERNOR MURPHY:  The key metrics from our hospitals continue to move in the right direction.  We’re way down from our peak. Key indicators continue to fall.  Each day brings with it surer signs that we’re moving closer to being able to enter Phase 2 of our economic restart.  Wearing a face covering or mask helps reduce the spread of germs.  Even if you don't feel sick, germs can spread to others through respiratory droplets.  Wear covering or mask correctly.  Maintain healthy habits.  Keep social distancing.

STATE AND NJDOH STATISTICS:  

  • NJ hospitals currently have 3,208 patients being treated for COVID-19.This is a decrease of nearly 200 from yesterday. 
  • NJ Field Medical Stations reported 46 patients.
  • 143 new hospitalizations and 286 patients were discharged from the hospital yesterday.
  • 896 patients in either critical or intensive care; 78% of if critical care patients are on ventilators; 700 ventilators currently in use.
  • The daily positivity rate for tests from May 17thwas 18 percent.
  • “The rate of new cases at our long-term care facilities continues downward from the peak,” said Governor Murphy.“The numbers of lab-confirmed deaths associated with our long-term care facilities is also decreasing from the peak.”
  • 19 cases of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children - no deaths reported.
  • Ages of children affected range from 1-18.14 out of the 19 have tested positive for COVID-19.6 are currently hospitalized.  

5212NJDEP LAUNCHES “MASK UP!” CAMPAIGN:  As part of the state’s efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has released a communications toolkit to strongly encourage the public to­­­ wear face coverings when visiting the state’s open spaces.  “Mask Up!” reminds residents and visitors to bring masks to New Jersey State Parks, beaches, forests and other public areas and wear them, especially where it is difficult to maintain a six-foot distance from others.  “With the warmer weather and Memorial Day coming this weekend, Mask Up! reminds New Jerseyans that we can do both: enjoy outdoors and keep our communities safe during the COVID-19 public health emergency,” said Governor Murphy.”  Read the NJDEP Press release here.
