Two additional long-term care cases reported today were from May 14. 

New COVID-19 Cases from July 31 – August 3:  50M, 64F, 77F

STATE AND NJDOH STATISTICS: 

  • NJ hospitals currently have 356 patients being treated for COVID-19.
  • 144 patients in either critical or intensive care; 49 ventilators in use; 34% on ventilators.
  • The daily spot positivity rate for tests from July 30 was 1.88%. Rate of transmission: 1.48
  • 1 new report of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in children, 55 cases total.
  • “We remain in a public health emergency. Over the last week, we saw numbers of new cases that we hadn’t seen in eight weeks. Our rate of transmission is now more than double where it was a few weeks ago,” said Governor Murphy. “Everyone needs to get it together – and fast. This is not yet past us.”

8032GOVERNOR REDUCES CAPACITY FOR INDOOR GATHERINGS TO 25 PEOPLE MAXIMUM:  Following a spike in the spread of coronavirus throughout NJ, Governor Murphy tightened restrictions on indoor gatherings.  Until further notice, indoor gatherings are now limited to 25% of a room’s capacity – with a MAXIMUM of 25 persons, down from 100.  The following may continue under the current rules – limited to 25% of a room’s capacity, but with a maximum of 100 persons:  weddings, funerals, memorial services, religious and political activities protected under the First Amendment.

8031NJ PREPARES FOR TROPICAL STORM ISAIAS:  Tropical Storm Isaias is expected to arrive in NJ tomorrow with impacts beginning as early as this evening.  New Jersey is currently under a tropical storm warning and a flash flood watch.  In the event outages occur, customers are encouraged to report their outage by calling 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877), clicking the “Report Outage” link on www.firstenergycorp.com, or by texting OUT to 544487.
