11195MESSAGE FROM MAYOR TAMBURRO: 

“Today’s report reveals the stark reality that COVID-19 has not released its grip on our lives.  The summer gave us some reprieve, but those days sadly are now over.  We are back to positive-case levels that rival those in the beginning of the pandemic.  While death rates aren’t at the same levels as the early spring, we are seeing alarming trends in new positive cases throughout the state, county and municipality.  We must not be complacent.  I implore everyone to do their part:  wear masks, maintain 6 ft of social distance, wash hands regularly, avoid indoor gatherings and get your flu shot.  As you plan your Thanksgiving celebrations, please avoid indoor gatherings with extended family and friends.  Adhere to the guidelines set forth by the CDC and NJDOH.  If you must gather, please move outside wearing proper PPE.”

STATE AND NJDOH STATISTICS: 

  • 4,320 new cases reported Thursday, November 19. 2,446 COVID-19 patients in NJ hospitals
  • 461 patients in intensive care; 223 (42%) of critical care patients on ventilators.
  • The statewide positivity rate for tests recorded on November 14 was 10.88%. Rate of transmission 1.42.

11193GOVERNOR MURPHY TIGHTENS LIMITS ON INDOOR AND OUTDOOR GATHERINGS:  Governor Murphy signed Executive Order No. 196 on Monday, lowering indoor and outdoor gathering limits. Effective Tuesday, the indoor gathering limit was decrease from 25 to 10 peopleThe outdoor gathering limit will decrease from 500 people to 150 people, effective Monday, November 23 at 6:00 a.m. 

“As we have been saying for weeks, this will not be a normal holiday season, and it’s incumbent on all of us to avoid the type of gatherings that have proven to be particularly dangerous places for COVID-19 to spread,” said Governor Murphy.  “With the alarming numbers we are seeing right now, we have to take these steps today to preserve and protect public health and to slow the spread of this virus.”
