 Mayor Dalina says Monroe customers have saved approximately $15 million since program inception

MONROE TOWNSHIP, N.J.  – February 12, 2021 – In Fall 2019 the Monroe Township Council locked in the lowest fixed electric rates to date for the Monroe Township Community Energy Aggregation (MTCEA) program by approving a contract with Constellation New Energy (CNE) for Round Four of the MTCEA.  The contract with CNE began in December 2019 and runs for a 24-month term that ends in December 2021.

“Monroe Township is a pioneer in New Jersey when it comes to municipal energy aggregation and leveraging bulk purchasing to guarantee lower energy rates for our residents,” said Mayor Stephen Dalina.  “The MTCEA program saved residents approximately $13 million in the first six years of the program under Rounds 1 through 3 and participating residents are seeing even more savings now. Our residents can expect to see a reduction of more than $250 over the life of the MTCEA Round Four contract for a typical household – more for those using large quantities of electricity or living in all-electric homes.”

As the lowest bidder, CNE proposed a set price of $.08395/kwh for the duration of a two-year contract.  This rate, which took effect in December 2019, represents an approximate 12 percent savings off the prevailing JCP&L tariff price during winter months when consumption, particularly for all-electric households, is at its height.

Like many of you, I am trying to be patient by recognizing that there are simply not enough vaccines in New Jersey.  It is an unfortunate fact. 

But I have not been patient over the last three weeks as your Mayor, aggressively working to improve the State’s woefully inefficient vaccine distribution system.  My staff and I are on the phone with the State each day trying to get them to improve their system and we won’t stop fighting. 

On a positive note, at the request of the Township Council and I, the County-run Monroe Senior Center Vaccination site is now exclusively for only Monroe and Middlesex County residents.  That is an improvement, but we need more.  Next week, thanks to the County, we anticipate the Senior Center site will receive double the doses. 

I know these are frustrating days for all of us – but I will not give up.  I will continue to use my position as your Mayor, along with the Council, to reach out to the State and fight for more vaccine locally for our residents.  I will keep fighting for a state phone number where seniors and others can call to schedule appointments.  Monroe residents are my first priority. 

MONROE TWP -  (February 5, 2021) – In an effort to get more community members involved in Monroe Township government, newly appointed Mayor Dalina, in cooperation with Township Council, is encouraging residents to apply for current and future openings on Township boards, commissions and advisory councils.

“The Township Council and I would like to see more residents sharing ideas, implementing programs and planning for the future of our great community.  What better way to get involved than to join one of our various boards and commissions,” said Mayor Stephen Dalina.  “Our residents have a wide variety of valuable skills and experiences that would greatly benefit us all.  We are thankful to those who give of their time in service to these important groups.”

Thanks to the efforts of Mayor Dalina and Township Council, the COVID-19 vaccination site at the Monroe Township Senior Center is now limited to serving only Monroe Township and Middlesex County residents. 

The site is managed by the Middlesex County Office of Health Services and so far has been open once a week.  Unfortunately, the vaccine supply distributed by the State to the County is very limited.    

The state system still needs much improvement and vaccine scheduling needs to be more efficient for our residents. The Mayor and Council continue to relay on a daily basis the real concerns of our residents to State leaders about this inefficient system.
