Monroe Township Hosts Resource and Assistance Fair for Residents Impacted by Tropical Storm Henri

Fair3MONROE TOWNSHIP– August 27, 2021 – The Monroe Township Office of Emergency Management hosted a resource and assistance fair this morning at the Rossmoor adult living community clubhouse to help Township residents who are recovering from flooding brought on by Tropical Storm Henri on Sunday.

“We are bringing as many resources and organizations together as possible to help impacted residents get the assistance they need,” said Mayor Stephen Dalina.  “Our OEM team’s command center, which we set up this week at the Rossmoor clubhouse, has been providing initial guidance to residents.  The resource and assistance fair connected residents directly with agencies, organizations and non-profits navigate the longer-term effects from this tropical storm.”

More than 170 households in Monroe sustained flood damage, with the vast majority located within the Rossmoor adult living community.  Anyone who experienced flooding in Monroe Township was invited to attend the assistance fair.

The following departments, organizations, and assistance groups, as well as non-profit organizations and the Rossmoor Homeowners Association, attended the event. Participants included:

  • State of New Jersey: Senator Linda Greenstein, Division of Banking & Insurance and Board of Public Utilities
  • Middlesex County: Office of Aging & Disabled Services, Department of Housing, Department of Human Services
  • Non-profit and Support: Rise, American Red Cross, The Salvation Army, Diocese of Metuchen Catholic Charities, Monroe Township Indians for Civic Action and Care One
  • Monroe Township: Construction and Permitting department, DPW, EMS, Fire District 3, Community Nursing, Office of Senior Services, Office of Social Services, Food Pantry, and the library

This week, Township staff, led by the building and code department, continued to work with JCP&L to restore power and air conditioning. Meanwhile, the Department of Public Works staff continues to clear debris.  As a reminder, DPW cannot collect food trash, hazardous materials, or paint, but can accept flood-damaged appliances.

Impacted residents are cautioned to have all appliances checked prior to operation.  All water-soaked splitter boxes and extension cords should be removed and properly disposed.
