MONROE TOWNSHIP, N.J.  – September 25, 2019 – Mayor Gerald W. Tamburro today announced that commuters traveling from Monroe to Wall Street will have a direct, express bus option beginning October 7, 2019.

“The Monroe Township Commuter Council has made steady progress and seen quick results that will improve quality of life for Monroe commuters,” said Mayor Tamburro.  “The Midtown express busses have been extremely popular and we are happy to add yet another convenient express service – this time to Wall Street – for our residents.”

Recognizing that Monroe Township residents rely on bus service as the sole public transportation option from the municipality, Mayor Gerald W. Tamburro established the Monroe Township Commuter Council as a critical step toward improving private bus service to New York and Jersey City.

The new Wall Street express route follows the announcement of two morning express busses to Midtown that began this Spring.  Effective Monday, October 7th, Suburban/Academy will begin operating a Wall Street express trip that bypasses the South Brunswick Park & Ride at New Jersey Turnpike Exit 8A.  The trips originate in East Windsor and service all stops in Monroe to Rossmoor before getting onto the New Jersey Turnpike.  Details of the schedule change are attached.

Also beginning this fall, the Mayor and Township Council approved a construction contract to repave the entire Applegarth Park & Ride, adding new lighting, sidewalk replacement and new and expanded bus shelters.  This will encourage more ridership and convenience for our residents.  Construction is scheduled to begin in October.  During construction, commuters can park at the Park & Ride on Applegarth Road located across from the Clearbrook Community.  Further notice will be provided regarding construction details and accessibility.

“We are working together with private bus companies to provide more options aimed at improving the commute to and from New York City and the surrounding areas for our residents,” Mayor Tamburro said.  “Upgrading the Park & Ride will further ensure that Monroe commuters have a much better experience.”
