TAX CLERK (Full-Time) DIVISION OF REVENUE COLLECTION
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under direction of the Tax Collector, the Tax Clerk shall perform and be responsible for a variety of routine, repetitive, noncomplex clerical tasks which involve computing, classifying, verifying and recording numerical data and the reconciliation of accounts, records, and documents to keep tax records complete; does other related duties as required.

DUTIES MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Collect and post-tax payments;
- Examines and verifies that entries, postings, and totals are accurate and supporting documents are included;
- Reconcile daily batches;
- Prepare deposits;
- Aid taxpayers with tax related forms from the State;
- Answer telephone, email, and mail inquiries;
- Filing and basic office duties;
- Manage adding and removing Bank Codes;
- Prepare for annual Tax Bill mailing;
- All clerical and computer work as it pertains to the preparation of the Tax Sale;
- Assist in projects as they relate to Federal, State, County or Local special requirements;
- Any and all other jobs deemed necessary for the enforcement and collection of taxes;
- Performs other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
- Sufficient speed and accuracy to perform any and all duties as required;
- Must have good mathematical abilities and knowledge of basic arithmetic functions;
- Must be capable of responsibly and honestly handling cash transactions;
- Ability to understand, remember, and carry out oral and written directions;
- Knowledge and ability to utilize computers and software such as Edmunds, MS Office (i.e., Excel, Word, Outlook);
- Ability to function under pressure such as time limitations or intense public interest;
- Good organizational, written & verbal communication skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, be self-motivated, detail-oriented and able to function efficiently within a fast paced and sometimes stressful environment;
- Ability to deal effectively and patiently with the general public, other Township employees including management and municipal officials in a pleasant, tactful, professional and efficient manner;
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment with the ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships;
- Ability to establish and maintain records and files;
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:
- Ability to lift up to twenty (20) pounds;
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, working at computer;
- Position may require walking or standing for long periods; climbing and bending, kneeling, reaching, holding, grasping and turning objects.
LICENSE, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
- High School Diploma or equivalent;
- Possession of a current, valid Certified Municipal Tax Collector’s Certificate is preferred, otherwise, will be required to be obtained upon employment;
- Prior experience with Edmunds software and on-line tax sales highly preferred.
Successful candidate must be eighteen (18) years of age or older and reside in New Jersey unless otherwise exempted by law and will be required to pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen and background / reference check (which may also include credit check for insurance purposes).

Wages:
$46,727.00* / Pursuant to applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement for 2024.
*(NOTE: If already certified, 2024 annual starting is $52,979.00)
