2025 PRIMARY ELECTION UPDATE
The 2025 Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, June 10th 2025
12/31/24 - Gov. Phil Murphy signed legislation moving the date of the 2025 Primary Election from June 3rd to June 10th to obviate any conflict with the Jewish holiday of Shavuot.
State Changes Candidate Petition Signature Requirements
2/4/25 - The New Jersey Division of Elections advises that a change in state election law has increased the number of petition signatures required for candidates to qualify for the ballot. Governor Phil Murphy has signed A-5117/S-3994, which modifies the number of petition signatures required for candidates to be placed on primary, general, nonpartisan municipal, and school election ballots.
The law went into effect on February 3, 2025 and is retroactive to January 1, 2025. Therefore, the law will impact candidates running for office in 2025.
Candidates interested in running for the Ward 1, Ward 2 or Ward 3 Council seats in Monroe Township, please contact the Clerk’s Office at 732-656-4573 for petition and new signature requirement information.
Petitions must be filed with the Municipal Clerk, 1 Municipal Plaza, Room 107 no later than 4:00 P.M. on MONDAY MARCH 24, 2025 N.J.S.A. 19:23-14
Bill to Extend Early Voting for the Primary Election signed by the Governor
3/11/25 - A bill was signed by Governor Murphy to extend Early Voting to 6 days prior to the Primary Election. Early voting will now be from Tuesday, June 3rd and conclude Sunday, June 8th. Early voting center located at the Monroe Township Library.

Late Night Voter Registration for Primary Election: May 20, 2025, This will be the last day to register to vote for the Primary Election on June 10, 2025. The Monroe Township Clerk’s Office will be open until 7:00 pm.
Late Night Voter Registration for General Election: October 14, 2025, This will be the last day to register to vote for the General Election on November 4 2025. The Monroe Township Clerk’s Office will be open until 7:00 pm.
Vote by Mail Ballot Applications- For an Application Click here. Vote by Mail Applications must be received by the Middlesex County Clerk via mail 7 days prior to the election. Hand delivered applications will be accepted up until 3 p.m. the day before the election at the County Clerk's Office located at 26 Kennedy Blvd, Suite B, East Brunswick, NJ, 08816.
