MONROE TOWNSHIP, N.J. – Monroe Township Mayor Gerald W. Tamburro today signed an Executive Order establishing the Monroe Township Commuter Council aimed at improving private bus service to and from Jersey City and New York City.

The Mayor appointed the municipal business administrator as chair along with Monroe Township resident and commuter, Gauresh Patel who helped spearhead the committee. Patel will serve as vice chairman of the Commuter Council that includes Senator Linda Greenstein, Assemblyman Dan Benson and Assemblyman Wayne DeAngelo. This legislative delegation has played a vital role in moving the process forward to improve service with the private bus carriers and state officials.

“Monroe Township is a desirable location and many of our residents commute to and from New York City and surrounding areas,” said Mayor Gerald W. Tamburro. “We must work together to improve this commute, the communication, the reliability and facilities so our residents can have a better experience.“

The committee will include five Monroe Township residents who commute regularly to midtown and lower Manhattan or Jersey City. Councilman Charles Dipierro also will serve on the committee. The first meeting of the Commuter Council will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 21 at the Monroe Township Library. Commuters and members of the public are welcome to attend.

“Ultimately, it’s a quality of life issue for our residents and it’s important that they experience a better commute so they can spend more time with their family,” said Mayor Tamburro. “We are extremely thankful to Senator Greenstein, Assemblyman Benson and Assemblyman DeAngelo who have helped begin this effort for better services for our residents and local commuters.”
