CELEBRATING “ROSIE” BROMBERG:  BEATING COVID-19 at 106 YEARS YOUNG!

Imagine the momentous events of the past century, from the women’s rights movement, to Prohibition, the Great Depression and Pearl Harbor, to the first man in space. Now imagine living through it all – INCLUDING COVID-19.  

Rose “Rosie” Bromberg, age 106 and a resident at The Gardens at Monroe, was born on Aug. 24, 1913.  She grew up in Paterson where she worked in a candy store with her parents making ice cream sodas. Her favorite childhood activity was dancing.  Bromberg lived in Florida for some time before moving back to New Jersey.  View the video celebration here.

COVID-19 Cases received Tuesday, May 19:  6 New Positive Cases

91 Female; 27 Male; 75 Male; 53 Female; 81 Male; 69 Female

STATE AND NJDOH STATISTICS:  

• NJ hospitals currently have 3,405 patients being treated for COVID-19.This is less than ½ of what it was 4 weeks ago. 
• 261 new hospitalizations and 282 patients were discharged from the hospital yesterday.
• 969 patients in either critical or intensive care; 750 ventilators currently in use.
• The daily positivity rate for tests from May 16^thwas 18 percent.
• “The curve continues to move in the right direction overall,” said Governor Murphy. “Metrics in our hospitals are down significantly since their peak.There has been a steady progression across the past 2 weeks. But we all still have a lot of work to do. We can’t move forward unless we’re confident that doing so won’t move us backward.Let’s keep it up.” 
• 15 cases of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children - no deaths reported.
• Ages of children affected range from 2-18.11 out of the 15 have tested positive for COVID-19.4 are currently hospitalized.  
• The rate of new cases at our long-term care facilities continues downward from the peak. We’ll keep working to push this curve lower.The numbers of lab-confirmed deaths associated with our long-term care facilities are also decreasing from the peak. 

‘THERE’S NO TIME LIKE THE PRESENT’: COUPLE GETS MARRIED IN MONROE TOWNSHIP PARKING LOT:  The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a lot of uncertainty to the world but today in the parking lot of the Monroe Township municipal building, one thing was certain -- the love between two people.  Ellen Panzer and Alan Schwartz have been in each other's lives for decades as friends. 

The couple applied for a marriage application on Friday via Zoom with the Monroe Township Municipal Clerk’s Office.  Today, the two became Mr. and Mrs. Schwartz with Judge Boyd officiating.  "There's no time like the present," says Ellen. "We know people who have gotten sick, we know people who have died and we know we're together." Watch the News12 New Jersey story here.

Monroe Township Emergency Medical Services members Nicole Esposito, Jaclyn Regina and Heather Nicholas may not have started their day thinking that they would be helping bring new life into the world amidst a world-wide pandemic but that’s exactly what happened on Saturday morning.  

The EMT’s sprung to action as they responded to the scene of a mother in active labor in the cab of a truck on the NJ Turnpike.  Upon delivering the baby girl, the mother went into distress.  Both were immediately transported to St. Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick where they were reported in stable condition. Read full mycentraljersey.com article here.  Congratulations to EMTs Esposito, Regina and Nicolas on a job well done!  You make the Monroe Township community proud.  We are lucky to have you!  Pictured from left to right:  EMT Nicole Esposito, Supervisor Jaclyn Regina and EMT Heather Nicolas
