BUILDING MAINTENANCE WORKER (Full-Time)

General Description:

Under direction of a Public Works Superintendent, General Foreman and Foreman, perform varied simple and moderately physically strenuous tasks involved in cleaning and maintaining offices, furniture, buildings, and grounds; may assist in making minor repairs to buildings or equipment; does other related duties as required.

Duties Include But Are Not Limited To:

· Performs all janitorial and custodial duties in the Township Buildings, including such tasks as cleaning, dusting, sweeping, waxing floors and maintaining bathrooms to the highest degree of cleanliness;

· Performs all light maintenance tasks on all Township Buildings, including such as replacing lightbulbs, painting, replacing, or building partitions;

· Performs outside maintenance activities as required on Township Buildings and Grounds;

· Performs all courier services as needed;

· Shovels and plows snow to keep buildings and grounds safe for residents;

· May frequently work in adverse weather conditions;

· May be required to work overtime as required and be subject to call in for emergencies;

· Performs all duties as required by the Superintendent of Public Works.

Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

· Ability to handle cleaning problems, lift and move moderately heavy objects, organize cleaning work, and develop work methods;

· Ability to understand, remember, and carry out oral and written directions, and to learn quickly from directions and demonstrations;

· Ability to follow safety precautions and to report potentially hazardous conditions;

· Ability to work effectively with other employees;

· Ability to prioritize, multi-task, be self-motivated and able to function efficiently within a fast paced and sometimes stressful environment;

· Ability to function under pressure such as time limitations or intense public interest;

· Ability to work in a team-orientated environment with the ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships;

· Ability to deal effectively and patiently with the general public, other Township employees, including management and municipal officials in a pleasant, tactful, professional and efficient manner;

· Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:

· Physical ability to perform janitorial and maintenance tasks, including frequently lifting loads of 50 lbs.

· Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.

LICENSE, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION:

· Applicants must possess a valid NJ Driver’s license.

Possession of a valid minimum Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is preferred.

Successful candidate must be eighteen (18) years of age or older and reside in New Jersey unless otherwise exempted by law. Will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical, background / reference check and motor vehicle record check, including DOT D&A Clearinghouse if candidate has a CDL.

Wages:

$51,627.00 / Pursuant to applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
