MONROE TOWNSHIP MOURNS THE LOSS OF FORMER MAYOR RICHARD PUCCI
“It is with the heaviest of hearts that we remember the legacy of Mayor Richard Pucci, who was larger than life. He was a staple of the Monroe community for three decades.
Mayor Pucci led our township for a generation, having served seven terms before announcing he would not seek re-election in 2015. In his 28 years of public service, he championed the building of the high school, a premier senior center, the public library, the post office, our beautiful parks and the many active adult communities.
Beyond his role as mayor, he was a dedicated public servant who spent 25 years as the Executive Director of the Middlesex County Improvement Authority, where he oversaw numerous community programs.
His legacy is one of service and steadfast commitment to the people of Monroe. But above all, his greatest love was his family with whom we share our deepest condolences.
As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate his life and the countless ways in which he made our community a better place. Today, I particularly remember and appreciate the mentorship and support Mayor Pucci gave to me over the years, and I know many other public servants in Monroe who have those same memories.
When Mayor Pucci announced his retirement in 2015, he humbly spoke of his accomplishments, trying to sum up three decades of work. He said: ‘From expanding community facilities like the senior center and library to preserving open space and making public safety a priority, I am so incredibly proud of all we have accomplished together over the last 28 years. But now it is time for me to move on and allow others to lead this town that we all so deeply care about.’
In recognition of his extraordinary service and lasting impact, the township is lowering flags to half-staff to honor his governmental legacy.”
